Colour and Light Measurement Solutions

Perceived color of product and brand plays an important role in recognition and selection of brand. It has become a necessity to maintain the color of product, packaging and logos.

Advances in technology and new developments have made quantification and measurement of color easy and affordable.

There are different types of Color Measuring instruments like spectrophotometers, chroma meter/colorimeters, gloss meters etc.

Spectrophotometer are used to measure spectral values ( reflectance/transmittance) of sample. Spectral values are used for further calculation of color parameters. Benchtop and portable versions of spectrophotometers are available.

Color Readers and Chroma meters are used to assess color difference between two samples.  The color difference  dE* is expressed in either L* a* b* or  L* C* H* color space.

Gloss Meters are used to measure gloss values. These instruments are used in paper, paint and plastic industries.

Color Measurement is used for quality assurance in industries. Some typical uses are:
Automotive industry: Maintaining tolerance of color of different accessories received from various vendors.

Food & Pharma : To check color of raw materials and finished goods.
FMCG: To check color of packaging, product and logo.
Paper,Pigment and Paint Industry:  Gloss, whiteness, yellowness and shade measurement.

Digital Printing Solutions

Advances in Digital Printing Technology has created many printing solutions that substantially reduce production cost and also resulted in profitable low-volume production.

Digital Textile Printers are based on inkjet technology. Suitable fabric handling mechanisms are attached to inkjet printers. Different types of colorants are used for different type of fabrics.

Direct to Garment (DTG) is also digital textile printing where small designs are printed on garments such as T-shirts and promotional wear.

In Digital Textile Printing there is no need to prepare “screen”, hence it is even economical to print small volume of fabric. Digital Textile Printers can print on cotton, silk and polyester fabric. Low energy sublimation inks and high energy disperse inks are directly printed on fabric. In sublimation printing, first printing is done on a transfer paper and then it is transferred to fabric using heat press.

Along with Digital Textile Printers, RIP software is used. This software enhances digital textile printers capabilities and makes processing of large image file faster and consistent.

Application of Digital Textile Printer : Apparel, garment, home textile, sports wear and furnishing.

Coding, Marking and Labelling Systems

Thermal transfer label printers use heat to transfer ink from ribbon onto the label. Label may be of paper or synthetic material. Ribbon is normally made of wax, resin or wax and resin combination.

Thermal transfer labels are used widely in packaging labels, retail pricing labels, supply chain management, marking specimens in laboratory etc. Barcode printed labels make inventory management and tracking easier.

Depending upon required shelf life of label, label material and ribbon type is selected. Thermal transfer labels are durable and scratch resistant.

Thermal transfer label printers also works in stand alone mode. That is no need to connect to computer. Label printers can also be interfaced with electronic weighing scale or other device and can be programmed to print information received.

Special label printers which can print simultaneously in two colors are also available. These printers are used to print GHS compliant labels in chemical and specialty chemical industries.

Label printers which can print on double side are used in textile industries for printing wash care labels.

Label printers are also used to print on tube, wire harness application and small size ( 4 mm x 4 mm) for PCB identification.

Print and apply system, consisting of label printer and applicator are installed in production line to automate labelling applications.

Inspection Systems in Food and Pharma Industry

It is the responsibility of manufacturers to supply food and pharma products that are safe for human consumption. Every manufacturer makes his best effort to put a system in place to manufacture good quality products.

Inspite of this there are possibilities of metal and foreign particle contamination. If product gets contaminated then it is harmful for human consumption. This results in costly recall of products, stringent action and heavy penalty by regulatory bodies. Also spoils brand image and consumer loyalty.

Metal detectors can detect ferrous and non-ferrous metal contaminants. They are used for checking contaminats in raw materail and packaged products. Metal detectors are installed before processing machines to safe guard them  from inadvertent metal particles. Metal detectors installed at the packing lines ensure contaminated product will not reach consumers.

Metal detectors can detect only ferrous and non-ferrous contaminant. They also face limitation to detect metal contamination in products packaged in aluminum foils. X-ray inspection systems can overcome this limitation.

X-ray inspection systems detect bone, plastic, stone, rubber and metal contaminants. X-ray inspection systems can also detect missing products, shape detection and package integrity.

Hopper - Tank Weighing System

Hopper, Tank and Vessel weighing system consists of  mounting assemblies, load cells, weight indicator and any other hardware and software depending upon application.

In process industry raw materials and finished goods are stored in vessels and tanks. Hoppers are used for intermediate weighing and discharging for further process. It is critical to know the availability of raw material and finished goods at any instance of time to manage inventory control.

Process Weighing System makes this easy by mounting loadcells under tank/hopper/ vessels using proper mounting assemblies. Different types of load cells and mounting assemblies are used depending upon capacity and structure of the tank. Weighing indicator is connected to load cells using junction box. Weight indicator is calibrated for full tank capacity. Now it is possible to know the exact weight of material in the tank and this opens up many applications and uses of this system.

Tank Weighing and Vessel weighing systems are used for:

Inventory control – easy verification of stock in tanks
Level control – on gravemetric basis
Batching – Adding different ingredients of known weight to collection hopper
Loss in weight – Monitoring based on reduction in weight
Gain in weight – Monitoring based on increase in weight.
